Sunlight and Shadows

Month: November 2025

  • Trust

“Trust in most” – is it true?

    Does that most include you?

    In this sea of many

    When does most become few?

“Trust in most” – does it say?

    Is it now, here today?

When it lands in my hands

Is this card good to play?

“Trust in most” – but how high?

What is too far to fly?

Will I fall at a wall

    And hit an unseen lie?

  • Mysteries

Fragile with a chance of rainbows

    Flat glass somehow bending light

    Reflected like blue icy shadows

Create a rainbow just from white

    Prism altering life’s sight

Tiny with a chance of greatness

    Mere speck somehow growing broad

    Blossomed like a trusted promise

Create a flower from sun and sod

Seed sown on the path we trod

Quiet with a chance of power

    Small drops somehow making seas

    Washed in like unfailing clockwork

    Create the tide for centuries

Oceans bring life on their breeze

  • Letting Go

Sometimes you fight by standing strong

    Speak out against everything wrong

    But sometimes fighting walks away

Your absence speaks when you can’t stay

When you put in your heart and soul

Letting go can take its toll

You have to pick up each strewn piece

Find what to keep and to release

Moving on still hurts, it’s rough

Releasing those deep bonds is tough

But faithful service is worth the cost

And love freely shared is never lost

  • Constellations

    Deep, dark, great expanse

    Lies stretched out around me

    Dotted with distant stars

    Almost too far to see

    Many mirrors, a mirage

    Who knows what’s there, really

    Space sealed into time

    Someone lost the key

    Images float by

    Fact, fiction all collide

    Reality warped

    Reach for ropes to guide

    Dark universe of night

    Where can I hold on

    Time slips through my hands

    Wait through dark til dawn

  • Buttercup

    Sunshine gold feathers fanning delicately

Cloud-like poofs of great pillowy down

Vibrant eyes reflecting the green world

Rosy comb pinnacled in a crystalized crown

Sun breaking, hens stir on the 2×4 roosts

Eagerly tumble out when the door starts to rise

Chirrup over bits of corn, calling unseen chicks

Fuss over egg laying like each was a prize

Afternoons spent exploring the green thatchy lawn

Dust baths in the barn dirt, bugs in the garden

Snuggling and purring in my lap being petted

Sneaking into the mudroom when the door is left open

First on the roost at dusk, evening call

Cluck and squawk and settle together for nightfall

That was Buttercup, my dear golden hen

  • Trapeze

Walking on a bridge so high

    Finding footholds in the sky

So much to lose, so far to fall

But not crossing will lose it all

    Sunset light is fading fast

Don’t know how long time will last

Thin tangled railings line the way

That must be crossed here, now, today

On this bridge I only see

    The churning water under me

    I can’t see, but still I know

That there are strong supports below

They’re grounded in the solid rock

And to the shore they safely dock

So I have no need to dread

If I will keep my eyes ahead

    Looking back in clearer skies

    I see the trapeze crystalize

To form a backdrop, solid ridge

That guides me on to the next bridge
