Sunlight and Shadows

Month: February 2026

  • Trapped

I’m fenced inside a cage again

    Trapped in fear and isolation

    Self-destructed my safety guide

Burned all the bridges to the outside

So now I rail against the bars

Resist, shrink back against old scars

I’m stuck, I realize now too late

I’m lost and hopeless in this fate

No – loss is losing those I love

Concern and care will rise above

The pit of greed, self-pity, fail

I will break free of this trapped jail

  • The Race

    Four and twenty blackbirds

    Sitting in a tree

    Picked a peck of peppers

And took them all for free

You can talk to me til

You are blue in the face

But do not judge until you see

    The tortoise win the race

    The tortoise is the hero

    The hare is the fool

In this tale but do not take

    This as all life’s rule

    The moral of the story

    If you really care

Is do not judge another’s place

    Unless you have been there

  • Own

Let go, don’t hold so tight inside

Stop fighting change and the unknown

Don’t go back where you used to hide

Release the fear and worry stone

    You will never be alone

Reject the voice of guilt and wrong

You don’t deserve to live in pain

Don’t let blame sit where you belong

Stand strong and walk against the grain

    You won’t be helpless again

    Step outside of patterns set

Push back the past’s influence here

Don’t live in guilt, shame, or regret

Reclaim the truth and hold it dear

You don’t have to live in fear

  • Paths in the Sea

When stormy waves wash high about my boat

The breakers roar and peaceful channels flee

When hope departs but for the lowest note

He makes for me paths in the sea

When storm clouds rise with darkness all around

The sun is hid — the course I cannot see

Though faintest rays of help cannot be found

He make for me paths in the sea

    ,
  • Villainous Character

You’re so bad, you’re so messed up

    You live to manufacture pain

Your only wish is others’ hurt

To take their loss for your own gain

You lie in wait to pounce and steal

While hidden in the dark of lies

You strike to plunder and destroy

    Another’s life your greatest prize

You have no shame or guilt at all

The world owes you for all you’ve lost

Others should hurt and suffer too

    Revenge has a bottomless cost

  • There to Stay

Snow on the ground is there to stay

In piles or snowmen or snowplowed towers

For even days upon days of sunny skies

Do not melt what came down in a dozen hours

As the snow turns to ice, and ice to slush

There seems no way to make it rush

For the ocean-like blanket thrown all around

So slowly, so slowly seeps into the ground

So just, when it’s snowing, be ready to say

“Snow on the ground is there to stay”
