Sunlight and Shadows

  • Running in Circles

    Slamming up against the wall

Bouncing back just like a ball

    Running fast from what’s inside

Just to hit the other side

I’m stuck in here, I can’t get out

Boxed in by my fear and doubt

    Prison walls inside my head

Thoughts so deep they can’t be said

Afraid to let in any light

Lest my fragile dreams take flight

If I keep them locked away

They still could come somehow, some day

I just imagine what should be

    And filter in reality

Float each hope up to the top

    Knowing bubbles always pop

Round and round this track I go

Endless loops of high and low

Unless, until I find the key

To open up the door for me

  • Mosaic

I am a traveler in a dark wood

    Simply searching for something good

I am a nomad on desert sand

A tiny speck in something grand

I am a sailor out on the sea

Rowing to something promised to me

I am a pilot in the sunset sky

Looking for beauty in clouds passing by

I am a driver speeding in a race

Trying to hold onto life’s fast pace

I am a diver swimming in the tide

Searching to find out where treasures hide

I am a wrangler riding a wild horse

Keeping a herd of cattle on course

I am a writer with a pen in my hand

Just trying to catch the words as they land

The beauty of life is that each is unique

With a mission, a role, a treasure to seek

  • Nothing After All

    Something sparkly

    Dancing sunlight blinding your eyes

But now all you see is shadows

    Something flashy

Colorful rainbow leading somewhere far away

But now all you feel is raindrops

    Something charming

    Mystic pied piper’s tune captivating

But now all you hear is flat notes

    Something exquisite

Silky strands of velvet, sitting on a cloud

But now all you touch is fake fur

    Something intoxicating

    Warm sweetness thrilling the senses

But now all you taste is bitterness

    ,

  • Silence

Rain pours down with silent splash

Lightning strikes from cloud to ground

But never does the thunder crash

When silence is the only sound

    Traffic speeds by, buses stop

Trains and semis shake the ground

Without a rumble, honk or pop

When silence is the only sound

Children call but none is heard

    In the backyard, store, playground

    People look – can’t speak a word

When silence is the only sound

    Woods and jungles running free

    Birds and animals all around

    Without the great cacophony

When silence is the only sound

  • Stalled

Drowning in words, but nothing to say

Wanting to act, but running away

Knowing these feelings will drive me insane

But still I hold on tight to the pain

Feeling so bad, but not knowing why

Looking for help, but too scared to try

Trying to look at what is inside

But fearing my world will just be denied

This chaos inside will tear me apart

Until I can find the truth in my heart

  • Maze

How do time and place contrast

That time goes by but places last?

Time changes place, then time moves on

While somehow place holds moments gone

But pieces of both time and place

Are carried forward in the race

They seep within us, mixing, shaping

    And unexpectedly escaping

To mold and meld with future time

To give life rhythm, tone, and rhyme

How do time and place entwine

To mark events where they align?

    Abstract and tangible unite

And pieces of a story write

Then move on forward to the next

Unless preserved in mind or text

That keep past stories living on

To make a space where we belong

We mark these moments in life’s climb

Through the maze of place and time
