Sunlight and Shadows

Month: March 2026

  • Nightfall

    Darkness drops on dimming dusk

Sky is sprinkled with salt of stars

    Gilded glints of gold aglow

Wake the world from wandering hours

Who can speed the break of dawn?

Who can heal the night’s long scars?

  • Seeking

All the light we cannot see

Yet fills our blood with yearning so

    The pull of new discovery

The faith in things we do not know

We press on sure to find the door

The innate longing to be free

The light that led me to a crack

Where I could see but could not reach

The slap that caused me to pull back

And listen to what it would teach

The crushing truth on hopes of youth

I grew to stand within the breach

Sunrise dawn’s brave beams of light

To bathe the soul from night’s dark wake

The tumult of the storm set right

The midnight watch we each must make

To find our place, to run our race

And build a love that cannot break

  • Climbing Mountains

    Climbing mountains – upward trail

Step by step this height to scale

    Gurgling brook measuring time

On a long and steadfast climb

Climbing mountains – up so high

Rolling peaks touch clear blue sky

So far above our place and time

The height, the power of the climb

    Climbing mountains – safe retreat

The place where sky and mountains meet

Towering rocks stand strong through time

A shelter from the weary climb

    Climbing mountains – heart aglow

    Traveling back to earth below

Hold this treasure for all time

The hope, the victory of the climb

    ,
  • Star Dust

    Shooting stars

    Twilight dusk

    Memories appear

    Twinkling lights

    Points in time

    Gather far and near

    Distant orbs

    Galaxies

    Now seen crystal clear

    Midnight tiptoes here

    ,
  • Long Road

How do I find the way from here

Past this pain and the chain of fear?

Why is the cliff edge taunting so near

Rutted track as I try to steer

Threatening all that I once saw clear?

Sun turns to mist and stars to mist

Shards of ice in a trembling fist

Eyes that yet burn with frozen tear

Search for answers in troubled past

Hope to find a way home at last

Here I wait for the light of dawn

Fighting through til the fog is gone

No matter what, I will hold on

    Through this painful ponderous load

No matter what, I will go on

No matter how long is the road

    ,
  • Spring

The warm wind blows through bare trees

The sun shines brightly on new leaves

And through the soil, green sprouts appear

The bulbs arrive and spring is here!
